Magogo: We May or May not Change the League

FUFA president Eng. Moses Magogo has hinted that the proposed Uganda Premier League reforms could either stand or be scrapped altogether after heated consultations with club bosses.

Magogo, together with his executive committee, met Uganda Premier League club presidents at Serena Hotel, Kampala, on Tuesday to discuss the controversial plan of introducing a three-round season format starting in 2025/26—a move that has drawn criticism from various stakeholders.

Speaking to journalists in a hotel lobby after the closed-door session, Magogo admitted the proposal is far from sealed. “We have had a very good meeting. It is not easy to gather this number of club presidents in one place. The objective was to meet minds on different issues, especially competition reforms,” he said.

While confirming consensus had been reached on players’ welfare, gate collections, data collection, and double headers, the FUFA boss left the new format hanging in the balance.

“We have listened to the clubs. We may continue with the new format after Tuesday’s meeting—or we may not. Either way, Ugandans should be assured that we shall find the best way forward,” Magogo stressed.

The final decision on the reforms is expected after further consultations on Tuesday next week.
