Tanga Odoi’s Son Wins NRM Youth League Chairmanship

Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Youth League after securing victory in the party’s internal elections.

According to official results seen by this publication, Collins Tanga garnered 1,567 votes, defeating his closest rival Brenda Kiconco, who polled 1,355 votes. The results were announced by his father, Dr. Odoi, who chairs the NRM Electoral Commission.

The declaration, issued late Monday, placed Collins ahead of several other contenders, including Geoffrey Mugisha, Pascal Natamba, and Jacob Eteru.

A total of 2,922 valid votes were cast in the race.

The outcome cements the younger Tanga’s rise within the ruling party’s youth structures, though the fact that he was declared winner by his father has drawn quiet murmurs about perceptions of fairness inside Uganda’s dominant political organization.

The NRM Youth League chairmanship is seen as a key mobilization platform ahead of the 2026 general elections, carrying influence over grassroots structures and the party’s engagement with first-time voters.

Dr. Odoi has overseen several controversial internal elections in the past, often facing criticism from within the party over transparency and allegations of bias.

His son’s victory is likely to sharpen debate over the NRM’s internal democracy and its handling of potential conflicts of interest.
